In the third quarter of 2007, 19 out of 20
e-mails worldwide were spam, according to Commtouch's "Email
Threats Trend Report." The 95% spam figure is a record.
“Spammers and malware distributors are the ultimate in test
marketers,” said Amir Lev, president and chief technology
officer at Commtouch, in a statement. "They keep trying
different techniques to bypass spam filters and ensure that
their messages have high response rates.”
Blended threat messages, which are spam messages with links to
malicious URLs, accounted for up to 8% of all global e-mail
traffic during the peaks of various attacks in the quarter.
Image spam fell to less than 5% of all spam, down from 30% in
the first quarter of 2007.
PDF spam represented 10% to 15% of all spam in early July and
then dropped, although it still accounts for 3% to 5% of all
spam messages.
